Flattering though it may be, at least as far as my minimal contribution to the book goes, I was shocked to see Hummingbirds: A Life-Size Guide to Every Species included in a list of field guides. This book illustrates less than 80% of the world’s hummingbird species, the rest (including extinct species) being covered in text only. North Carolina is home to 21 freshwater turtle species. Of these 21 turtle species, 11 are protected because of a law, which went into effect on July 1, , that prohibits the "commercial taking" of 11 species and one subspecies of turtles and terrapins in the families Emydidae and Trionychidae.
